Emmetsburg Public Library Now Offers Downloadable eBooks!
(Emmetsburg, IA) – December 1, 2010– Emmetsburg Public Library has expanded its WILBOR services to include eBooks available to download from the library’s website. Library card holders can check out and download eBooks anytime, anywhere by visiting www.emmetsburg.lib.ia.us.
Users can browse the library’s website, check out with a valid library card, and download to PC, Mac®, and many mobile devices. To read eBooks, users will need to install Adobe® Digital Editions free software. A link to the software is available on the WILBOR web site on the Quick Start Guide page or when a title is checked out.
Adobe Digital Editions software is the industry standard software and installs in less than two minutes with a broadband connection. It is a simple and attractive way to read and manage DRM (Digital Rights Management)-protected EPUB and PDF eBooks. EPUB is a reflowable eBook format and the emerging standard for digital publications. This means you can resize the text or the screen to suit you and the text will wrap itself around in the available space. Many publishers provide their best-selling titles only in EPUB, while graphic-heavy eBooks are often available in PDF.
Titles can be enjoyed immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, Sony® Reader™, Barnes & Noble nook™ and with iPad® coming soon. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees!
“It really is timely that the WILBOR consortium is adding downloadable eBooks in time for Christmas,” said Assistant Director Donna Mason. She continued: “It gives them time to shop for the right eBook reader or smartphone.”
This new service, powered by OverDrive, will be free for patrons with their Emmetsburg Public Library card. The WILBOR consortium has added around 750 eBook titles from top publishers like Random House, Hachette Book Group USA, HarperCollins, and Harlequin.
