Emmetsburg Public Library Receives Three New Public Access Notebook Computers!

The Emmetsburg Public Library was recently the recipient of an Opportunity Online Hardware Grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The library used its funds to purchase three new Dell Notebook computers for use by the public. The library was also able to load them with all the latest software through the Microsoft Donation Program.

Patrons of the Emmetsburg Public Library will soon have more options for the public access computing at the library.  The library was recently able to purchase three new Dell notebook computers configured as public access workstations to be loaned out to patrons for use in the library.  The notebooks feature built-in wireless connectivity, with which patrons will be able to access the Internet anywhere in the library courtesy of the wireless connection provided by Iowa Lakes Community College.

In addition to the matching grant that enabled Emmetsburg Public Library to turn $1,000 into three notebook computers, the library also took advantage of the Microsoft Software Donation program to load up on otherwise spendy software.  The good news is that not only will the software be installed on the new notebook computers, but also on the existing six public access workstations and on the two children's area computers.  The titles include: Microsoft Office 2007 Professional, Microsoft Math, Microsoft Streets and Trips, and Microsoft Encarta 2009.  The donated software licenses for the eleven computers carry a fair market value of over $6,000!

The library is very pleased to be able to offer the new computers and software to its patrons and welcome anyone who wants to use them to check them out!
